Christmas at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center is a 12-day Atlanta holiday tradition. Highlights of the seasonal festivities include tours of the mansion, holiday concerts and special activities for children. This year’s celebration is scheduled for December 7-18.
The Callanwolde estate was once the home of Coca Cola heir Charles Howard Candler. The Gothic Tudor style home was completed in 1920. Callanwolde hosts concerts, literary events, and other fine arts activities throughout the year. The historic mansion is beautifully decorated for the holidays by some of Atlanta’s top interior and floral designers. The home’s decorations reflect a classic English Christmas theme that was popular in the early 20th century.
The Christmas celebration kicks off with a Preview Party on December 6 from 6-9pm. Attendees will be the first to see the decorated mansion and meet the designers. An evening of musical entertainment will be provided by jazz vocalist Gwen Hughes. Wine and gourmet refreshments will be available. This is a reservation only event, and tickets are $75 per person.
Here are some of the highlights of Christmas at Callanwolde.
• Breakfast with Santa on December 8 and 15 by reservation only. Tickets are $20 per person and include breakfast, live entertainment, a visit with Santa, and tours of the mansion.
• Teddy Bear Tea on December 9 and 16 by reservation only. This festive children’s tea in the mansion includes tea, hot chocolate, tea sandwiches, cookies, and other treats. Enjoy live entertainment, visits with Santa, and tours of the mansion.
• Cabaret Nights on December 7 and 14. Enjoy a live cabaret performance during the extended evening hours. Marsha DuPree will entertain on December 7, and Libby Whittemore will perform on December 14. Wine and light refreshments will be available for purchase. Cabaret Nights is included with the general admission ticket.
• Callanwolde Dance Ensemble will present three performances of The Nutcracker on December 8 and 9. Performances will be held at the Decatur Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $12.
Christmas at Callanwolde hours are Monday-Saturday from 10am-4pm and Sundays from 11am-6pm. Friday evening hours are 4-9pm. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $12 for ages 4-12. Visitors may shop at the Callanwolde Artists Market throughout the event. Callanwolde Fine Arts Center is located at 980 Briarcliff Road NE in Atlanta. Free onsite parking is available Monday-Thursday. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday free shuttle service runs continuously from Emory University Briarcliff Campus, located ½ mile north of Callanwolde at 1256 Briarcliff Road NE.
