Once in a lifetime

Atlanta’s North Side Holiday Celebrations

Festive celebrations on Atlanta’s north side will make the holidays merry and bright.  Celebrate the wonder and magic of the season at a holiday light display, Christmas tour of homes, a parade and Polar Express Adventure, and a seasonal arts and crafts show.  These holiday favorites are a great way to usher in the joy of the season.

For more than 20 years Life University in Marietta has presented ‘Lights of Life.’  The annual holiday drive through lights attraction is a favorite tradition with many families.  The one mile drive through campus features more than one million twinkling lights in stationary and animated displays, including a 60 foot tall Christmas tree.  On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday other activities are available for an additional fee.  Children can enjoy photos with Santa, train and pony rides, and a petting zoo.  A concession stand is open for refreshments.  ‘Lights of Life’ is an affordable activity for families.  Admission is $5 per car on Sunday-Thursday and $10 on Friday and Saturday.  Life University is located at 1269 Barclay Circle, off Hwy 41 in Marietta.

The Marietta Pilgrimage has been one of the metro area’s most popular Christmas home tours for more than 25 years.  Day tours are scheduled for December 7 and 8, with a candlelight tour on the evening of December 7.  Day tours feature six private homes dating from the late 19th to the early 20th centuries, as well as several historic public buildings.  The candlelight tour offers three of the homes.  A free shuttle runs between tour sites during the day.  Tickets are $20 for day tours, $15 for candlelight tours, and $25 for a combination ticket.  The tickets may be purchased from the Marietta Visitors Bureau or at any of the tour homes.
The Christmas House Arts and Crafts Show will run December 6-15 at the Mable House Arts Center in Mableton.  Holiday shoppers will find unique gift items including jewelry, accessories, home décor, toys, pottery, food items and much more.  The show will feature the work of 65 vendors.  Lunch will be available at Mable’s Tea Room.  Tours of the historic Mable House are available during Tea Room hours.

The City of Kennesaw’s holiday celebration begins December 7 at noon with a Christmas parade.  Floats, bands, and live reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh will march through downtown Kennesaw.  Spend the afternoon enjoying holiday activities, crafts, live music, train rides, a free snow playground, and snow tubing.  The Christmas tree lighting is scheduled for 5pm.  The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History in Kennesaw will host a Polar Express Adventure from 6-10pm.  Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for ages 4-12, which includes children’s activities, holiday crafts, a visit with Santa, and refreshments.
